Notturno fluviale (Meditazione sul rumore)
Francesco Zanatta, 10mins, 2025
Notturno Fluviale is a study of the concept of noise intended not only as an unpleasant sound but also as a visual artifact. The so-called high sensitivity in digital cameras allows us to see in the dark by adding an artificial grain to the video, sacrificing its quality. In these night shots, noise is not avoided but rather enhanced, thus creating abstract, hypnotic images that pulsate slowly.

Working mainly with video, my research is articulated on two different levels that occasionally intersect. On one hand, there is a process of retrieving and reassembling images from the web, in an attempt to analyze their specificities in relation to the subcultures and the stories they hide. On the other hand, there is the documentary exploration of my daily environment, deriving from an impulse to film certain occasions and places that stimulate me. The constant that binds these two different trends is editing, which is at the same time a fundamental tool, a backbone and a key to interpreting the works.
