Cuba Velocity

"In April 2023 I was invited to give a workshop at the San Antonio de los Baños School in Cuba.
I arrived with a Bolex, knowing that for most of the workshop I would want to film, along with the participants, the surroundings and the school itself. It was the fourth year I had been there, so I knew the spaces very well, and especially the rhythm of life and the peculiarities of a space closed to the world, a kind of island within an island.
In my spare time I filmed a long corridor, a fundamental part of the school. All the workers who arrive in the morning on the morning bus enter through this corridor, but it is also a place where students and teachers pass through to the dining room and the school bar. I had always been attracted by its austere architecture, but above all by the constant passage of bodies.
During the first week I kept hearing news about the imminent closing of the school; that could be the last year... A thousand times announced apocalypse. Cuba is that too. An accident put on pause.
So I think that idea of the end, of closing a dream, had a lot to do with the decision to film that space where workers and students walk. The urgency of keeping a memory of a space. (...)

His film, video-art pieces and projects have been screened at La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Bolit Museum (Girona), International Director's Lounge (Berlin), Prism (Sheffield), Performance Intermedia (Warsaw), Filmadrid or IBAFF, Anthology film archives, S(8) Coruña or Valdivia festival.
In 2014 creates LAV an experimental pedagogical space around avant-garde cinema.
